Dad doesn’t want me to marry a dunce man

Tbh, your dad probably has a really good point, even if it hurts to hear it. I know love is supposed to be blind and all that, but being married to someone who isn’t smart is going to get so exhausting. Like, right now you might think his lack of book smarts is cute or that he makes up for it by being sweet, but wait until you have to handle all the adulting by yourself.

Think about the long term. Do you want to be the one doing all the taxes, reading the contracts, and making every single important decision for the rest of your life? That’s not a marriage; that’s basically you adopting a grown man. Your dad is looking at this from a practical standpoint because he doesn’t want to see you struggle or end up carrying the whole relationship on your back.

Sometimes we confuse a guy being “chill” or “carefree” with him just being lazy or ignorant. There’s a huge difference between a guy who didn’t go to college but works hard and a guy who is genuinely clueless about how the world works. You need to ask yourself if you actually respect his mind. If you don’t respect his intelligence, the attraction is going to fade so fast.

Don’t marry this guy just to prove your dad wrong, because you’ll be the one stuck with the consequences. Have a totally honest conversation with yourself about your future. If your dad is right, it’s better to break it off now and deal with a broken heart than to be miserable for decades. You can find a guy who is both sweet and actually has a brain.
