The premise of this specific episode is peak budget-television sci-fi: Emperor Gorganus uses Neuragula to trap our privileged teens in a brutal time loop. They are forced to live through Aunt Nicole’s birthday party over and over again, completely draining their energy before they even get to the portal.

What makes this episode stand out in all its low-budget glory is the sheer absurdity of the writing and execution. Watching the teens realize they are repeating the same casual party conversations is genuinely funny, mostly because the acting is so perfectly over-the-top. The show’s special effects if you can even call them that really shine here.

The fight sequences against Neuragula look like they were filmed in a smoke-filled warehouse with costumes made out of painted foam and rubber bands. Yet, there’s an undeniable charm to how the cast plays it completely straight while sporting constellation tattoos and shouting things about transforming into Galactic Sentinels.
