Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills: Review: The Ghost Warrior

What makes this particular episode stand out to me is the heavy irony and the family dynamic that plays out. Gordon has to sit back and watch his own mother praise this imposter and lift him up as a grand champion while she has absolutely no clue that her own flesh and blood is the real hero doing the heavy lifting. It is quite funny but also a bit sad to see a young man struggle with wanting his mother to respect his achievements while being forced to keep his mouth shut because of his secret duty. The public totally eats up the lie, showing how easily people can be fooled by a good show and some fancy talk.

By the time the climax rolls around, the sorcerer reveals his true colors and the real team of fighters has to jump into action to clean up the mess. The special effects are incredibly cheap with people running around in bright spandex costumes, but the way the plot folds in on itself keeps you entertained. Gordon’s mother even ends up finding out the big superhero secret by accident during the final chaotic battle. It is a goofy piece of entertainment that does not require a university degree to understand, but it handles the classic theme of deception and family recognition in a way that feels very nostalgic and memorable.
