Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger arrived as the franchise’s twenty-fifth-anniversary series.

That milestone made the season part of an important period of Super Sentai celebration.

Its animal theme also gave the production an enormous amount of visual material. Different animals could become different Power Animals and combine in various ways.

The team could therefore expand its arsenal without abandoning the central animal concept.

Gaoranger helped establish the idea that anniversary seasons could celebrate Super Sentai history while still presenting a completely new team with its own world and mythology.
