J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai followed Gorenger as the second Super Sentai production, but it did not simply copy its predecessor. It leaned harder into cyborg imagery, playing with the idea of humans being transformed into powerful technological heroes.
The team also had a very different visual identity. Instead of simply feeling like colorful secret agents, the heroes had a stronger mechanical and superhero-like appearance. Their powers were connected to specialized technology and animal motifs.
J.A.K.Q. also had a difficult production history and struggled to match the success of Gorenger. That makes it especially interesting historically because it shows that Super Sentai did not immediately become the perfectly established formula people know today.
The introduction of Big One was particularly significant. He became a powerful additional hero who could dominate the action and provide a new kind of team dynamic. The idea of a special or additional warrior would later become a major part of Super Sentai.
So even though J.A.K.Q. is sometimes overshadowed by the much more famous Gorenger, it was an important experimental step. Some of its ideas would eventually become normal parts of the franchise.
