This gives the character an identity separate from the main team’s robot.

The mecha may eventually combine with the primary robot or operate independently.

This also creates new combinations for the team’s final battles.

The practice became so common that the arrival of an additional Ranger often meant the arrival of an entirely new layer of giant-robot mythology.
