Hurricane Red, Hurricane Blue, and Hurricane Yellow formed the original Hurricaneger team. This gave the season a much smaller starting group than the traditional five-member team.

Having three heroes allowed the show to give each character considerable attention. Their personalities and relationships became central to the early episodes.

The smaller team also made the Gouraigers’ eventual arrival more dramatic. When two additional warriors appeared, the overall balance of the team changed considerably.

The Gouraigers weren’t immediately friendly, either. They had their own goals and traditions, so the story wasn’t simply about adding two more heroes.

This structure helped Hurricaneger demonstrate that Super Sentai didn’t need to begin with five permanent heroes. A team could start small and develop as the story progressed.
