Did You Know? Gorenger’s five Rangers were originally part of a military-style organization?

The Gorenger team wasn’t simply a group of teenagers who happened to discover superpowers. They were members of the Earth Guard League, commonly known as EAGLE, an organization created to fight the terrorist group Black Cross Army.

That setup gave the series a much more espionage-oriented feeling than many later Super Sentai seasons. The heroes had bases, weapons, communications equipment, vehicles, and organized missions.

Akarenger, Aorenger, Kirenger, Momoranger, and Midoranger therefore functioned almost like a specialized superhero strike team. Their enemies weren’t simply monsters appearing randomly; they were part of an organized military threat.

This also explains why the early series could sometimes feel more like a spy adventure than a children’s fantasy show. The Rangers investigated enemy plans, infiltrated locations, gathered information, and used specialized equipment.

Later Super Sentai teams would become more fantastical, but the idea of having a formal organization behind the Rangers remained extremely important. Teams such as Changeman, Flashman, Maskman, and Dekaranger would all build their own versions of that concept.
