What if the Alien Rangers were never introduced?

Without the Alien Rangers of Aquitar, the gap between the destruction of the Dino Zords and the creation of the Ninja Zords would have had to be handled entirely differently. The Earth Rangers wouldn’t have been de-aged into children, which was a bizarre but beloved plot point. Instead, they would have remained powerless teenagers watching helplessly as Zedd attacked.

The urgency to find the Ninja Power Coins would have been driven purely by the destruction of Angel Grove, rather than the personal ticking clock of the teens aging out of existence. It would have been a more grounded, desperate scavenger hunt. Billy and Zordon would have been working overtime in the ruined Command Center, trying to buy time.

We would have missed out on some of the most unique Zords in the franchise’s history. The Battle Borgs and the Shogun Zords brought a distinctly different aesthetic to the show. Without the Alien Rangers, the Earth team would have likely just received the Ninja Zords directly, skipping the Shogun Zords entirely, which would have been a massive shame for toy sales and lore.

The concept of a wider universe of Power Rangers would have been severely delayed. The Alien Rangers were our first glimpse into the idea that Zordon wasn’t the only game in town. Without them, the Earth would have felt incredibly isolated until In Space came along. The expansion of the mythology was a crucial stepping stone for the franchise.

As a kid, I thought the Alien Rangers were the coolest thing ever. They were fish-people who were better than our Rangers! It blew my mind. Removing them would have made the tail end of Season 3 feel like a standard placeholder arc. They brought a sense of cosmic scale to the show that it desperately needed at the time.
