Fertility Symbolism: Beneath the modern slang and pop culture lies a deeply rooted traditional belief, particularly in agrarian and pre-colonial Nigerian societies, where wide hips and a large backside were indicators of good health and fertility. Subconsciously, many men still hold onto this evolutionary mindset, equating a woman’s ability to carry and birth children safely with the width of her pelvis and the size of her hips. Thus, the preference is often less about modern vanity and more about primal, ancestral instincts regarding lineage.
